At a time when I most needed it the wonderful community arts project "52 Stitched Stories" came along. Started by Fiona Doubleday(Earth Threads) in Arran, Ange(Weft Blown) oversaw the West Kilbride group which I joined. The West Kilbride group is now overseen by Rona Slevin (Rona Slevin ceramics)
This very much was a cathartic exercise for me and produced a body of work which I was very proud of indeed. Thrilled that these pieces were then sold to raise funds for Kidney Kids Scotland.
"It began as a challenge to create a postcard piece of work each week for 52 weeks, or as many as life allowed. Now the project is in 24 countries around the world with hundreds of members creating their own narratives through artistic expression. As we moved through 2020 the project expanded in response to member requests. This included the introduction of kits & resource packs to support creativity. They are available in our Etsy Store. Moving into 2021 we are introducing two new elements to the project - the academy and the workroom. The academy is a portfolio of virtual learning opportunities. The workroom is a virtual studio with two resident textile artists. There is a lot to find out about Stitched Stories." Fiona Doubleday
Fiona(Earth Threads) is joined by Charlotte(Ribbled Recycled) in the workroom at stitched stories. Stitched Stories website can be found here, make a wee cuppa and join us for the next stitching adventures.
